5 Day Sermon Devotional Sunday Series: Fresh Series - Part 5: Our Mission

February 17, 2025

Understanding Your Mission

  • Matthew 28:19-20

  • John 17:15-18

Devotional Thought:

Jesus gives us a clear mission in Matthew 28:19-20: "Go and make disciples." This is not just for pastors or missionaries overseas—it is for all believers. Wherever you go, you are called to share the love of Jesus with those around you. In John 17, Jesus prays for His disciples, not that they would be taken out of the world, but that they would be sent into it with purpose. Your mission field is your home, workplace, school, and community. How can you begin seeing your daily routine as a mission field?

Self-Reflection Question:

How can you be more intentional about sharing Jesus in your everyday life?

Seeing the Mission Field Around You

  • John 4:3-10

  • Acts 17:16

Devotional Thought:

Jesus intentionally placed Himself where people needed Him the most. In John 4, He meets the Samaritan woman at the well, engaging in a conversation that transforms her life. Paul, in Acts 17, observes the idols of Athens and recognizes the people's spiritual hunger. Like Jesus and Paul, we must open our eyes to the needs around us. The people who need Jesus most may not come to church—they are in our neighborhoods, workplaces, and grocery stores. Being present and aware can lead to opportunities to share Christ.

Self-Reflection Question:

What places or situations in your life could be opportunities to share the gospel?

Loving the People in Your Mission Field

  • Mark 10:21

  • 1 John 3:18-19

Devotional Thought:

Jesus loved the rich young ruler even though He knew the man would walk away. Love is more than words—it requires action. 1 John 3 reminds us that love is demonstrated through what we do, not just what we say. Being a missionary means actively loving people, even those who seem unlovable. This love should be unconditional, just as Christ’s love is for us. When we show genuine care, we reflect Jesus' heart to those who need Him.

Self-Reflection Question:

How can you show Christ’s love to someone today in a tangible way?

Living a Life That Points to Jesus

  • 1 Peter 3:15

  • Philippians 2:14-16

Devotional Thought:

People notice when we live differently. Peter tells us to always be ready to explain our faith, but our actions must back up our words. Philippians 2 challenges us to shine like lights in a dark world by living without complaining and arguing. A consistent, Christ-honoring life is one of the greatest testimonies we can offer. When people see peace, joy, and integrity in us, they will want to know the source of our hope.

Self-Reflection Question:

Does your daily life reflect Christ in a way that draws others to Him?

Taking Action on Your Mission

  • James 2:14-17

  • Romans 10:13-15

Devotional Thought:

Faith without action is dead. We are not saved by works, but true faith moves us to act. Romans 10 reminds us that people cannot believe unless they hear, and they cannot hear unless someone tells them. You are that "someone." Whether through words, acts of kindness, or living out the gospel, you are called to bring Jesus to those around you. Don’t wait for the perfect moment—step out in faith today.

Self-Reflection Question:

What specific step can you take today to fulfill the mission Jesus has given you?
